Menopause and Alcohol

Lockdown has been so tough on many of us and although for some, things appear to have an element of returning to normality, life is still squeuiff and we're often finding our way day to day as we adapt to the constant changes!

Alcohol has definitely played it's part in our lockdown experiences and settling in front of Netflix with a grab bag of crisps has meant we have felt less and less inspired to move our bodies which on top of the extra alcohol many of us have been drinking, has impacted our menopause experience hugely!

So how does alcohol affect peri-menopause and menopausal symptoms?  There are over 30 symptoms we lovely ladies can suffer from in varying degrees. 

The majority of women won't suffer with all of these symptoms but we all certainly suffer with some of them, the most common being:

• Anxiety
• Night sweats
• Hot flushes
• Weight gain
• Mood changes

This shows how many of the symptoms are also increased by drinking alcohol.

It's shocking just how many of our perimenopausal symptoms are made worse by your favourite tipple, nearly 2/3rds!
We can't stop our bodies going through the menopause, but we can help improve our chances of getting through it as painlessly as possible.  We CAN control what and the amount we drink! Not only does this help improve how our body deals with the menopausal symptoms but it also helps with our mental and physical wellbeing too!
