So what is the difference between Sober Curiosity and Mindful Drinking?

Awareness about being more mindful with our decisions of what to drink, how much and how often is becoming more prevalent as the media are catching on to terms like Sober Curious and Mindful Drinking, with the increase in interest we're asking ourselves questions around what those terms mean?

Ruby Warrington wrote a whole book about her story and journey with alcohol and coined the phrase 'Sober Curious'.  It is a brilliant book and one I'd highly recommend reading if you are thinking about exploring your relationship with alcohol.

Being sober curious is when you are starting to reflect on your relationship with alcohol and ask yourself the questions that challenge your habit drinking and how you think about drinking.  If you are sober curious you are wondering what life without alcohol might be like or what would happen if you decided to put your health first and drink less often.

You might be curious about what you could drink instead and have started doing some research, following some other like minded people on social media to follow their story, answer some of your questions (because, let's face it, we all ask the same or very similar questions!) and see how they put their ideas into practice.

It's about the interest we show and the curiosity that happens before we take action; a contemplative period of time.

Being a mindful drinker is where we're actually taking action.  We've done some research and decided it's worth giving it a go.  You're paying attention to how alcohol impacts your life from sleep to work and everywhere in between.  It's not about giving up alcohol forever but about changing how we think and experimenting with ideas whilst reducing our intake.

It's a good middle ground to start while we find our way and explore some more about what we want the future to look like.
